Help for Homeless Veterans and their Families

If you are homeless and a Veteran of the United Stares Armed Forces or the homeless spouse of a qualifying Veteran, the Greater Wheeling Coalition for the Homeless can help. If you are currently living without a permanent form of shelter or are at imminent risk of becoming homeless within the next 14 days, please contact the Coalition today.

Case Manager Rana Yahn works with Veterans and their families to provide help including temporary rental assistance as part of the Coalition’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. She can be reached at 304-232-6105 to schedule an appointment and, if you live outside Wheeling, Rana can make arrangements to meet with you in your area.

The main focus of the SSVF program is to help Veterans and their families overcome housing barriers. Coalition case managers are here to help connect people who are homeless with local resources, such as making a referral to Veterans Administration Facilities and other programs, creating a housing plan and helping with the skills needed to maintain shelter and achieve financial stability and provide direct assistance with landlord contacts, education on tenants rights such as evaluating and signing a lease and the completion of an application for subsidized housing in the area.

In some case, the Coalition can also offer limited financial assistance including emergency supplies, bus passes for transportation and full or partial payment of a security deposit, utility deposit, first and second month’s rent or prior month rental arrearages.
